Dreams and Goals

Dreams, Goals, and the Kind Rebirth they Bring

June 08, 20263 min read

A lot of us spend a large amount of time within our lives chasing something. It might be a promotion. It might be a degree. It might be a relationship or financial freedom (MONEY), business ownership, or home ownership. Some of us chase finding an updated version of who we are. Whatever it is that’s dangling on the end of that stick, they many times give us direction. They motivate us and give us purpose, right? We get inspired and we work harder than we normally would, we learn a lot in the process, and we push and challenge ourselves to our personal limits. We call this the pursuit of dreams.

In the Kind Rebirths space, these dreams we talk about and chase aren’t things that we reject or move casually away from. In fact, they are often a super important part of our journey. And the question is not whether we should have dreams. No! The question is whether we truly can fathom why we are pursuing them.

Sometimes we chase dreams because they are genuinely speaking to something deep within us. Other times we pursue them because we were taught that they were important. Familial expectations, social pressures, comparison, status achievement, and fear are all subtle (sometimes blatant) influences that alter the types of goals we set for ourselves. And without even realizing it, we can end up spending years running in circles or chasing something that never truly belonged to us from the beginning. So, it is here where I insert awareness. And awareness here is truly valuable.

So, what has brought me to this place? Well, mindful awareness invites us to pause long enough to examine and analyze our dreams in and of themselves. Sometimes it’s good to ask, why does this matter to me so much? What do I hope to gain? What type of experience do I expect to get once I achieve it? Is this an authentic representation of who I am and something I want or want to be? Or is this just something coming from a belief I inherited from someone else or society at large?

Please note, my posing of these questions are meant to bring to light the larger scope and to create clarity for oneself. It is not meant to discourage anyone’s ambition. At Kind Rebirths, I do not suggest that you abandon dreams. We just ask that you kindly consider pursuing dreams consciously and with awareness out loud and with intention and purpose rather than as a matter of fact or while on autopilot. Please believe me when I tell you that there is a difference between chasing something because it’s there or because you are running from some form of discomfort and in pursuing something because it aligns with your soul and who you are becoming.

I’m not the final judge of anyone’s ambition. And sometimes awareness will tell you that a dream is worth pursuing and other times it reveals that a dream has changed because you have changed yourself. In either case, both discoveries are valuable commodities to hold and appreciate in those moments. While dreams can provide direction, let awareness help us understand why we are walking that path. If you are fortunate enough to notice, during honest reflections, we can realize that what we thought we wanted isn’t the thing that we need. Conversely, we may discover that our dreams still matter just as much if not more than they ever did before. The key is mindfully noticing. And that moment, again, is a rebirth.

Stay mindful…

Rebirth.
