Romantic Love - A Metaphysical Rebirth

October 19, 20254 min read

I love the idea of romantic love. I have learned over the years that it is more than an emotion. It is an energy force that transcends all boundaries we can see. We have to look inward towards more metaphysical concepts to look beyond the normal psychology and chemistry that we attribute to it. For some, it’s hard to accept the idea of a soul, but for me, it’s harder to deny the essence that connects beings across time, form, and experience.

Romantic love is alchemist’s playground with consciousness. It is an exchange that dissolves the idea of separation and independence and constructs transformation. Because when we fall in love, something, a small part of the independent nature we thought we owned dies, and, indeed, something greater, more pleasant is born. This death and rebirth to which I have become so passionate about, describes the very nature by which love and loving-kindness are indistinguishable. They describe how the very process by which our soul evolves.

Love is a Union

Love is more than a bond between two people. When two destined souls converge, an energy field is created. Frequencies align and consciousness expands. A connection is created and that identity of self is erased like it was an illusion. So, when you find someone and you feel like you two have met and known each other before, that’s why it feels timeless. Memory stretches beyond a physical manifestation because romantic love becomes that mirror showing a reflection of the self’s deep desire to be united (reunited) with that infinite spirit. Perhaps, the soul is remembering its birth source.

Romantic love begins in the customary rebirth fashion – live, die, and be reborn. As the old patterns of the egotistical self passes on, it releases significant feelings like fear, need for control, and the idea of a personal, dependent self. For love to prosper and then to deepen, this metaphysical death must occur in order to welcome in kinder, more gentler rebirths. As we learn to empty ourselves of the notion that we exist independently and do need the identity of others, we find a glimpse into the truth of love: love is not something that can be owned and managed by our known understanding. We align with love in order to fulfill a part of our existence.

As relationships end and that previous part of romantic love that we housed disappears, that connection is severed. But fortunately, that connection is formidable and ambitious. It will not settle on a deadened nerve ending – it seeks evolution; it seeks reshaping, it seeks to be reborn again. It needs a new expression to flourish and mature again. But please know, rebirth of romantic love is not about finding a mate or a new partner, it is about becoming a new expression, a new vessel. Its principal focus is to become something that can host new and greater love with more compassion.

Looking at love from a metaphysical perspective teaches us that romantic relationships are sacred. We do not meet our soul’s mate through happenstance, but by divine (and karmic) alignment. Its goal is to search and awaken. Then it imparts lessons of trust, of surrender, of forgiveness, and of absolute truths. However, it does not come without its theatrics. This love may last a lifetime for some, for others it is present just long enough to serve as a catalyst for internal transformation. Either way, love the purpose, supports our soul’s evolution. Heartbreak may seem like death, but it is a divine awakening bolstering the kind of rebirth that teaches us to how love purely, less obsessively, and with more patience and understanding.

The universal energy of love obliges us to understand the metaphysics of love and rebirth. Love, awoken through romantic love, is to perceive the energy of life, one of the types of collective loves we are so fortunate to possess. Do not take this gift for granted. A rebirth in love is a remembrance to the soul of its place and purpose. It is not found; it is revealed and regained. It lies between separation and dependent origination.

An Eternal Dance

In life, we suffer thousands of small defeats. Our ego, our illusions of happiness, and our unwarranted expectations are included. It does not matter how long or how brief our individual love stories are, consider that it serves a universal and cosmic purpose – we are born of love and we are not separated from it. The gift of romantic love and soul mates are constant reminders. Let’s not forget our purpose and duty to love.

Stay mindful…

Rebirths
