That Moment Before We Respond

The Moment Before We Respond

I bet we spend most of our lives rushing through things just to get past them. We hardly spend any time noticing the small or the large things that are right in front of us. By the time we realize it, it’s already in our rearview. When we are next to it, it’s almost like we are blind. How does the saying go - we can’t see the forest for the trees. We tend to speak, defend, explain, or withdraw before we even notice that it was there. However, just was we begin to react, there is a small space that appears. And when we take the time to slow down to simply observe that space, that tiny crack, for only a few seconds, something changes.

That pause is special. It’s special because we are not trying to suppress emotions, we are taking a moment to witness it. We are committing to letting that first wave of emotion pass over us or through us without letting it determine which way the entire moment is heading. We control that. Because in that paused space, awareness lives and breathes. Remember this, it is here we have the choice in how we choose arrive at what is happening.

Many Kind Rebirths land here or begin here. It’s not the wedding of the decade; it’s a small ceremony at City Hall. So, let’s breathe well before we move on.

Stay mindful…
