The Soul of Helping Others

The Soul of Service: The Spiritual Rebirth of Helping Others

Stepping into the act of helping others is a sacred act. Service isn’t just a task nor is it a bullet point item on a charity requirement checklist. It’s a silent doorway that opens a person up to their honest self. In the world of Kind Rebirths, service is not something that is given from emptiness. It is about the idea of showing up with presence, with compassion and with soulful intention. During this process opens up another pathway to experiencing a transformation that reaches far beyond the people you’re interested in helping. Service is a rearrangement of your spirit.

Choosing to help others, whether it’s by choosing to offer your time, your attention, or your resources, you are choosing to step outside of the problems of “me” – my own worries, my own deadlines, and my own struggles. You enter a shared spirit of humanity. Remember that in this life, we share divine space and that were are not and never have been alone. The people you offer the service of assistance to are mirrors reflecting back the truth you may have forgotten long ago. Your intention matters; your presence matters; and the compassion you have for others carries a huge weight. Let your spiritual rebirth begin here.

When I began my journey of rediscovering myself, I began to realize that community service often brings you into contact with people who carry so many more burdens than I have had to deal with. It is a difficult scene to watch, the struggles that others have to face and deal with while possessing limited resources. And it’s common to try and compare our own issues with the struggles of others, but that leads down a path that causes separation between our lives and theirs. If the goal is to find the peace and spiritual divinity in others, we may want to step back to see how we can bridge separation, thus creating opportunities to deliver acts of kind services. As such, in learning to strengthen our awareness and by finding a way to eliminate comparative struggles and offering service to others is optimal in learning the lesson of humility. And while this form of humility lightens their load, it also has the capacity to redefine purpose for ourselves. In other words, with the offering of love and kind gestures to others without any expectation, you are blessed with the gift of unrestricted giving. Let these types of acts fuel a vehicle of service that starts a cycle of charitable and humble contributions that continues to give back.

The Grandeur is in the Small

Large and grand gestures are often seen as service. Little recognition is placed on the small and simple things we offer. Rebirth lives in the tiniest elements of a moment and rarely receives a standing ovation. But when we are kind and do the things that are necessary outside of the limelight, we learn a set of patterns of positive actions that are contagious – the need to help others without any credit. There are many acts I’ve seen on social media and on TV where kind acts are done, but I have to question the intent. When the intent is not to become famous or increase your views, does that truly reposition your soul? Me, standing here not as a judge, only seeks to inspire things that create a positive spiritual practice. Like the saying, “food for the soul”, providing personal or community service is medicine for the heart.

Find the Self in the Service of Others

One of the greatest illusions to man is that that illusion of separation – that we are not connected. But if you have ever participated in volunteering at a homeless shelter or mentored a youth through the Boys and Girls Club or shown up for a community clean-up day with your church or other social group, I bet you have felt that shift. Strangers instantly become like family and simple acts become righteous. All of a sudden, you have become intertwined into the social network of that community or of that purpose. You have joined the shared hopes of shared healing. Because when they rise, you rise too.

Serving others is not always easy nor convenient. Let go of the idea of creating perfection. Growth is found in the things that are rarely seen as perfect. Like a diamond form from coal, entering someone else’s world, if even for a second to provide a listening ear, can do amazing things and provide extraordinary transformation. What you and someone else discuss may be just the thing that they need to overcome or help decide on how to make a terrible decision. And on the other hand, you may have just learned the importance of empathy through listening. Helping someone in the place that they are and not where you think they should be is a beneficial act of service to both parties.

A Kind Rebirth is a continual process performed often. Community service is a powerful catalyst for unfolding. The meaning of compassion in action is taught by opening your heart and offering service to others humbly with nothing expected in return. The return comes in the form of wisdom and appreciation. These are expansions of love. So, if you ever having troubles or issues you are facing in your life, consider offering your help to the benefit of others through heartfelt intention, presence, and soul. Adding a little more to the world rebirths you in exponential ways.

Stay mindful…
