Part 3 — When You Don’t Follow the Worry
Even after noticing that we do not have to follow every single thought that we have or every one that arises, the mind will continue to move. It will offer interpretations. It will continue its predictions. It will give more explanations. Despite that, watch and remain vigilant for the part of your that notices the importance of remaining still. With enough mindfulness practice, we hope for the clarity that lets us know that even though the thoughts are present, alive, and well, however, they are not the same as the moment itself. This is important.
Quiet separation is a recognition. Our feeling is still there; I want to reiterate; but the layer of worry that generally follows and surrounds us begins to lose some of its grip on us. Again, it has not disappeared, but we are carrying it differently than we have before. We are noticing it differently than we ever have before. We know when to hold on and when to release not like at any other time before. We can observe it and not become absorbed in it.
This may sound easy in theory, but I know it is a harder act to practice. But, when we practice with grounded mindfulness, or the ability to stay present in a moment (despite the intensity of it) acknowledging it for how it actually is without turning it into something else, it will not require the force or control we may think we need. We are shifting our attention by not following thoughts as they wander aimlessly and we stay right in that space-moment. Stay with the experience, don’t attempt to move beyond it.
I appreciate that space because as things begin to settle, our relationship to difficult times transform. Our sight is more clear, not because we have the solution or the remedy, no. We are less controlled by the drifting movements of our thoughts that have been trained by our past or the illusions we have created because of our lived experiences. A Kind Rebirth here brings you to the clarity you need in order to help you move through times that cause worry, rather than leading a life of one trying to escape it.
Stay Mindful.
