You Don’t Need a New Life, Just a Clear Moment

Change likes to show up as pressure in our everyday lives. It’s not always dramatic, but it is persistent. It’s subtle, but noticeable, like a ringing in your ears. Sometimes that pull to change wakes you up in the morning possibly urging you to do more, to become more, and to figure out how to do it quickly because things for you haven’t quite “clicked” yet. So what do we do? We start looking for answers.

Growth is good. Change can be good too (given that it is within the right parameters and for the right reasons, of course). We start developing new routines, new frames of mind, new personal dispositions, and we try to become more productive. But in our rush to do this, we easily overlook how quickly we are moving past the life we are already living in the quest to find one that feels better. But sometimes, nothing is actually wrong with your life.

When we start to face these types of mental or internal challenges, sometimes “change” isn’t missing and possibly not even necessary. Perhaps it’s clarity that’s missing. Clear moments don’t require you to become someone else. It only asks that you take pause. And when we pause, pause with purpose. Stay in that paused moment long enough to see what’s already here. Think of the way your body feels and is responding to stimuli, think of the thoughts you keep circling back to, and think about the quiet signals that are interrupted or unnoticed because we are constantly moving.

Using force doesn’t bring clarity. Clarity likes to appear when you are not trying to solve all the problems of the world or all the problems in your path. This is where many get stuck. But there is a huge difference between being stuck and being unobservant. We don’t have to be stuck. We get stuck because we are moving at a high rate of speed all the time. We can’t notice or witness what’s actually happening around us. But when we slow down, even if it’s just for a few minutes a day, I think we can notice more subtle changes occurring. Consider this, circumstances don’t change, but our relationships with them can and do.

Clarity doesn’t arrive through force. It tends to show up when you stop trying to solve everything at once. As you begin to recognize patterns, you begin to understand your reactions to things. Noticing what aligns and what doesn’t and your restraint in immediately trying to fix it lessens, that’s when awareness has entered that loud building finding you in your quiet room. It’s unrushed and no pressure moments filled with honesty.

I don’t claim to know everything, and I am right there with you all every day. But I’m fairly confident we don’t always need a new direction, nor do we need a dramatic breakthrough. It’s nice to just sit back and enjoy a clear moment where we can be fully present, fully attentive, and fully aware of how things are.

Stay Mindful….
